AWONET is on the ground before, during, and after emergencies, working to reach women and their families with lifesaving aid and long-term assistance. AWONET members and staff are at the heart of our ability to respond to complex emergencies. They work with partners, in some of the most challenging contexts, to reach the women and their families at greatest risk, taking bold and innovative actions to deliver results. Working in emergency and high-risk settings can be extremely fulfilling, and every emergency duty station presents its own unique opportunities and challenges.
AWONET works for the rights of every Woman, every day, across Uganda. AWONET was established in the aftermath of COVID 19 to help Women and their families whose lives and futures were at risk – no matter what area they were from.
For years after AWONET’s founding, Uganda faces a variety of momentous crises including armed conflict, the effects of climate change, economic downturn and the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. But through the years, AWONET has remained undaunted and unwavering in its work for women.
Day-in and day-out, we work in some of the toughest places to reach the women and their families who are most at risk and most in need. We work to save their lives. To protect their rights. To keep them safe from harm. To create an environment in which they’re protected. To give them a fair chance to fulfil their potential. We are AWONET. We stand for every aid worker, every woman, everywhere. And we never give up.
AWONET is active in more than 100 districts in Uganda. Our vast network of skilled and committed staff, volunteers and members means we can take successful approaches from one place in the country and adapt them to meet challenges elsewhere, helping drive results for women and their families at national scale.
As one of the national largest buyers of life saving supplies, such as vaccines and ready-to-use therapeutic food, AWONET has unique leverage with suppliers. Our expertise in anticipating demand, a strong knowledge of markets and ability to work with industry enables AWONET to consider production and supply chain challenges, provide timely access to supplies and, most importantly, save more lives.
AWONET is on the ground before, during and after humanitarian emergencies. Our national supply chain and local presence mean we can get help to where it's needed fast – we can providd lifesaving supplies almost anywhere in the Uganda within 48 hours. Just as important, AWONET stays and delivers. How we respond in crises lays the foundation for long-term development, just as how we work in non-crisis situations helps communities to weather future shocks.
Innovation is at the heart of AWONET’s ability to achieve results for women and their families. Our national network of aid workers helps scale up proven solutions, while a dedicated aid workers fund provides financial resources to aid workers that may be attacked during the course of their work. The results? A new wave of technologies and products to help us reach the hardest-to-reach women and communities.
Strong partnerships with governments, NGOs, civil society and the private sector make AWONETs work for women possible. AWONET is the national leading voice for – and with – women. Impartial and non-political, we are never silent about violations of women’s rights. Our actions are a leading source of information on the situation of women and their families around the Country for journalists, researchers, policy makers and advocates. Our staff, volunteers and members help inspire people around the country to support the cause of women. In all we do, we work to engage and empower women to have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives
